Bring RelayRides Carsharing to Your Neighborhood

RelayRides launched its operations in Cambridge, Massachusetts in June 2010. The reaction in Cambridge has been so great that we'd like to bring RelayRides to other communities in the surrounding area, but we need your help!

RelayRides is all about enabling individuals to bring positive change to where they live.

If you want RelayRides to come to your community and are willing to help us reach a critical mass in your neighborhood, we will support and empower you; together we can get things up and running in no time!


We're looking for RelayRides Community Organizers: committed individuals who initiate the idea of bringing carsharing to their neighborhoods and rally communities around it. If you're willing to be a RelayRides Community Organizer, you'll make a major difference in your community, and you will receive $500 in driving credit. Alternatively, if you are one of the car owners participating in the program, you'll receive a free bi-weekly car washes and oil changes for 6 months as a token of our appreciation.


Here's how it works:

If you are located within a 50 mile radius of Cambridge, MA and are willing to conduct outreach in your community, carsharing can quickly become a reality. As a RelayRides Community Organizer, you can single handedly change the way transportation is done in your neighborhood - whether you live in an urban area or suburb.

As an Organizer, you would need to recruit a critical mass of members consisting of at least 4 Car Owners & 50 Borrowers within approximately a 1-mile radius of where you live. If you can rally a couple blocks or a few large apartment buildings together, a couple of neighbourhood sports teams, or a school PTA, you'll be set!

Once you reach this point, RelayRides will come in and get everything up, running, and rolling!

There are a few guidelines that need to be met to qualify:

    Car Owners must:

  • Own or lease vehicles that have automatic transmissions, are less than 10 years old, and have under 80,000 miles.
  • Have a reserved, publicly accessible parking space. If they don't but you find a parking space owner nearby who's willing to share the spot that could also work.
  • Agree to make their car available at least 4 weekend days per month and 8 weekday evenings per month.
  • Have valid drivers licenses and credit or debit cards.

    Borrowers must:

  • Agree to make a $25 deposit, which will be immediately applied to their driving credit. Their credit card will only be charged after RelayRides launches in your community.
  • As usual, there are no sign up or annual fees.

    You, as a RelayRides Community Organizer, need to:

  • Conduct outreach in your community to recruit the necessary number of members;
  • Collect initial contact information;
  • Act as our Point Person on the ground and assist with coordination of the process.

    What RelayRides will do:

  • RelayRides will work with you from start to finish to help you bring RelayRides to your community..
  • We will provide you with marketing support as needed – both in the form of printed collateral, such as doorhangers, postcards, and parking signage along with a dedicated Marketing Coordinator at RelayRides headquarters who will work with you to help develop the most effective ways to rally the community.

  • Once a critical mass of car owners and borrowers come together to bring carsharing to their neighborhood, we will setup the cars with our In-Vehicle Technology that facilitatea sharing without having to exchange keys, along with a $1,000,000 insurance policy to protect the car owners and renters during the transactions.
  • All Borrowers will receive a personal smartcard that will allow them to access participating vehicles without having to exchange keys or meet owners. RelayRides will also provide ongoing customer support and service to ensure that this becomes a long-term success.
