There are a lot of important team members here at RelayRides, but perhaps none more so than our fearless leader: Shelby Clark. At 28 and fresh out of Harvard Business School, Shelby is the man who keeps RelayRides pointed in the right direction, empowers us to make our own smart decisions, and politely reminds us not to screw too many things up. Here we’ll learn a little more about Shelby, stretching from how RelayRides was founded to his general thoughts on life and business. Read the rest of this entry »

Meet the Team: An Interview with Shelby Clark
August 12th, 2010
Yes, quite literally, this weekend peer-to-peer carsharing hit the rocks. But, as I’ll explain, this was actually a very good (and fun) thing. Not only did being a RelayRides car owner help me make a little money, it actually saved my weekend by letting me essentially swap my car for one more appropriate for the occasion. Why the Time Is Right for Peer-to-Peer Carsharing
June 21st, 2010Here at RelayRides, it’s pretty obvious that we’re passionate about peer-to-peer carsharing. But it would be hard to run a company if we thought we were the only people in the world who would be interested in our concept. We need a healthy user-base of car owners, and even more car borrowers, to succeed. Fortunately, it’s the perfect time to launch a peer-to-peer carsharing service – it’s exactly what the world, and the fine people that make up this world, have been looking for, for three main reasons. First, while trends have been pointing in our direction for some time now, the cataclysm caused by the recent economic recession and oil spill have primed the world to accept carsharing en masse given its clear environmental and social benefits. Second, this combines with the rise of collaborative consumption, an increased trend of sharing that is built on the belief that access to goods is better than actually owning them, to make our peer-to-peer model especially appropriate. Third, the shifting infrastructure of our cities to provide increased mobility and discourage driving takes RelayRides from being an interesting concept to a workable reality.
Ladies & Gentlemen, Start Your Engines
June 7th, 2010Well hello, World.
My name is Shelby Clark, and I’m the founder and CEO of RelayRides. I’m thrilled to introduce myself, our team, and RelayRides, on the eve of our launch. It is truly amazing when you see months of hard work and determination finally culminate into reality. After over a year in development, the service is finally being rolled out in Cambridge, MA.
As a service that exists because of the communities we serve, we believe in open communication and transparency. This blog is our way to keep connected with our members, car owners and the community at large. In the coming months, you’ll hear from our team, other car owners and members, industry experts on topics ranging from carsharing to transportation to collaborative
consumption and much more.
Whether you are a Cambridge local hoping to use the service, an environmentalist from hundreds of miles away, or someone in between, we invite you to join our conversation, and collaborate on our Mission: To promote a more efficient use of neighborhood resources. We look forward to helping you work with your neighbors to build a stronger community, alleviate strained wallets, and lend a hand to the ailing environment.
Great things always begins with a group of people who believe that something amazing can be achieved by banding together – we hope you’ll join us.
